United States – 60:12
Director: Sheila M. Sofian
“Truth Has Fallen” is a 60-minute documentary that examines the cases of three individuals who were wrongfully incarcerated for murder and sheds light on weaknesses in the US justice system. With the help of James McCloskey and his organization, Centurion Ministries, these convictions were ultimately overturned. Employing innovative painted animation, “Truth Has Fallen” investigates why these three individuals were wrongfully convicted and suggests reforms to the United States justice system that could help to reduce the rate of wrongful convictions.
SaMo INDIE says:
Director Sheila M. Sofian has created a stirring documentary that chronicles the lives of three people who were wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit. The film employs a mixture of live action and hand painted animation to shed light on these harrowing tales and the devastating effects that can and do result from some of the deep flaws within the United States criminal justice system. Ms. Sofian delivers the film with a compassionate touch and offers real solutions that could make an enormous difference in a country that imprisons more of its population that any other on the planet. As Sir William Blackstone so eloquently stated over 250 years ago, “Better that ten guilty persons escape than one innocent suffer.” Truth Has Fallen lays bare the fact that we still have a long way to go in our jurisprudence.
